Devasted by fire this 19th Century Grade 2 listed cottage on the Stansted Airport Estate required a major restoration project. The cottage was gutted following an accidental fire in the thatched roof. Little of the original timber-framed structure remained and it required a painstaking and sympathetic rebuilding programme, using materials that matched those in the original structure such as oak timber, thatch and lime mortar.
Using a full-time on-site project manager, we worked closely with the building control and planning officers to ensure the exacting requirements of the Grade 2 listing were fully complied with. Drawing together a team of specialist craftsmen from across East Anglia, Eric ensured the restoration work was first class in all respects.
Mr. Michael Walker of Stansted Airport Limited who attended the handover was very complimentary.
Thackray’s was recommended to us. I had not come across them before, but we have been very pleased with the quality of the restoration. Their attitude and management of Health and Safety matched that of much larger contractors that we use on the airport.
Edward Thackray: “Following the completion of this project we have now been asked to handle a further restoration project on the Estate. We are delighted and are looking forward to working with the Airport again”.
